Visit us at the Cape Farm Alliance Strawberry Festival!

Strawberry Festival

East Coast Nannies will be at the Cape Farm Alliance Strawberry Festival on Saturday June 24th from 10:00 to 3:00! Maine’s farm fresh strawberries are among the most delicious fruits you’ll find.  Strawberry season in Maine is a short one, typically lasting only 3-4 weeks.  Don’t miss out! Be one of the first to pick this year’s strawberries, while enjoying many family activities, vendors, music, local food, and a tractor ride around the event!

Our booth will include activities for children and will give you an opportunity to talk to us about your family’s childcare needs.  Whether you’ve hired a nanny in the past, are an expectant mom or just need a reliable childcare solution for an event or date night, we’re here to help!

The Strawberry Festival will be held at Maxwell’s Farm’s strawberry fields on Two Lights Road in Cape Elizabeth.

(Please note that strawberry picking will be in whichever of Maxwell’s fields are most abundant that day – often picking is not available in the fields at the Festival site, but down the road on Rte. 77. Picking signs will be posted that day to direct berry lovers.)

Wondering what to do with all of those strawberries you’ll pick? While they’re great to eat on their own, try this award winning recipe from Maxwell’s Farm:

Bill Brewington’s Chocolate Strawberry Pie

Crust:
1 ½ cups chocolate wafers, finely crushed
1/3 cup sugar
5 TBSP butter, softened
1/8 tsp salt

Preheat oven to 375 F. Mix wafer crumbs, sugar, butter and salt until well blended. Press firmly onto bottom and sides of 9” pie plate. Bake 8 minutes and cool thoroughly before filling.

Filling:
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/3 cup sugar
¼ tsp almond extract
1 cup whipping cream, whipped

Beat cream cheese, sugar and almond extract until thoroughly blended and smooth. Fold whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until blended. Spread onto pre-baked pie shell.

Topping:
Fresh-picked Maxwell’s Farm strawberries, uniform sized
¼ cup dark or semi-sweet chocolate melted

Arrange hulled strawberries to cover the top of the pie with the points standing up. Drizzle the milted chocolate over the strawberries. Chill pie in the refrigerator for 2 hours before serving.
